celebrating 30 years

SILVA was born in a basement in January 1980. It was founded by Eugene Silva and is 100% Canadian owned and operated.

The idea of creating or changing furniture styles has always been a fascination for Eugene. He started out at age 16 sweeping the floors at a furniture factory and worked his way up to upholstery, and has never looked back. Eugene was always happiest when he could take an old piece of furniture and create something new and refreshing from it.

When Eugene started out, he was working a full time job. On his evenings and weekends, with his wife helping out, he would work on recovering old furniture.

Over the years, SILVA has evolved into all new furniture. At this present time, SILVA has 50 plus employees and is continuously seeking more.

The frames for these new pieces are made on site in our own frame shop. SILVA makes hardwood frames that are glued, screwed, and doweled. Having our own frame shop gives us the ability to custom size any frame to suite individual needs. We offer traditional or contemporary styles, and while we do have our own very successful catalogue, we do recognize the need for a place where you can get your own ideas and designs built for you.

Anyone who knows Eugene will verify that you will not find him in a suit sitting behind his desk. However, you will find him on the floor working in every department within the factory. He is a hands on owner and does his fair share of the manual work. His true passion is creating new styles in person or, through the computer by designing a program for the CNC machine, along with his eldest son.

You may have also seen SILVA featured in several leading Canadian Décor Magazines. Eugene himself has even been seen on many TV shows such as Design Inc and has worked with Stephen Sabados and Chris Hyndman. Please come by and visit, and see why SILVA’s commitment to quality and comfort can benefit you.
